INTERVERTEBRAL DISKS

The schematic demonstrates the relationship between inter-vertebral disks and the vertebrae. Strong spinal ligaments hold the disks in their normal anatomic position. The displacement of a disk (herniated disk) can lead to impingement on a nerve root as it exits via the intervertebra foramen.
