The saphenous vein is the largest superficial vein in the leg. It travels along the inner aspect of the leg from the groin to the foot. The saphenous vein or one of it's branches, can become inflamed resulting in thrombophlebitis. The saphenous vein is commonly used by cardiac surgeona as a don or vessel to gratt narrowed coronary arteries in the heart.
