Enuresis
Enuresis, also known as urinary incontinence, involuntary passage of urine. The most common form is nocturnal enuresis, or nighttime bedwetting. Daytime enuresis is usually associated with a disease of the urinary bladder, or a neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis. Nocturnal enuresis is most often found in children. Although it can be treated with an antidepressant drug (see Depression), by psychological counseling, or by behavior modification techniques, such as an alarm that wakes the child upon urination, bedwetting is usually due to delay in the development of urinary reflexes, and the condition disappears with time. Recent research indicates that nighttime bedwetting may have a genetic basis.
