Anaerobe
Anaerobe, an organism that can live without oxygen. Anaerobes have metabolisms that derive energy from oxygen-lacking nutrients, usually through fermentation but sometimes-as at deep-sea hydrothermal vents -through reactions using inorganic chemicals. All anaerobes are simple organisms, such as yeast and bacteria; those that actually die in the presence of oxygen are called obligate anaerobes, while the rest of them are called facultative anaerobes.
